Introduce new concepts with these fun board books

By Jessica on August 17, 2021 ages 0-3, picture books

There are lots of ways for little ones to explore the world. The following board books will introduce them to concepts beyond their immediate homes.

GERMANY: A BOOK OF OPPOSITES (HELLO, WORLD), by Ashley Evanson, Penguin Workshop, July 20, 2021, Board Book, $7.99 (ages 0 and up)

Hello, Germany! This board book series pairs early learning concepts with illustrations of the iconic art, architecture, food, and culture of places around the world. In Germany, you can use words that are opposites to help you discover the country: hikers at the top and the bottom of the Alps, beautiful Black Forest trees that are near and far, and delicious Bavarian treats that are eaten and then gone.

This is the ninth book in Ashley Evanson’s Hello, World series, which features locations from around the world. Each book features a theme — senses, days, shapes, numbers, sound, time, and color. Germany is the second book in the series to feature opposites (the other is London).

Bold, stylized illustrations bring elements of Germany — cuckoo clocks, nature, and architecture — to life. This charming book will appeal to kids and parents alike.

SPOT’S FIRE ENGINE, by Eric Hill, Warne, Aug. 3, 2021, Board Book, $9.99 (ages 0 and up)

Everyone’s favorite puppy is visiting his grandpa at the fire station in Spot’s Fire Engine.

Spot is visiting his Grandpa at the fire station, and he’s very excited! Join Spot on his adventure by reading the story, and then play with the fire-engine shaped book.

Spot was a staple in our house when my daughter was younger, and even her 7-year-old self was excited to see Spot’s Fire Engine. The book is simple, but gives little one a basic idea of what goes on at the fire station. And the shape of the book is sure to give many little ones plenty of enjoyment.

GREEN TRACTOR, by Kersten Hamilton and Valeria Petrone, Viking Books for Young Readers, Aug. 17, 2021, Board Book, $7.99 (ages 0 and up)

From the creators of Red Truck, Yellow Copter, and Blue Boat comes a new story about a helpful tractor getting ready for Harvest Day just in time for fall!

It’s Harvest Day at the farm, but before the kids arrive Green Tractor has to help their farmer friend get everything ready. They have to move big boulders using the hayfork and plow the land for the pumpkin races. And when the kids get there, it’s time for Green Tractor to shine by pulling the wagon for the hayride!

There’s something about a tractor that little kids just can’t resist. This cute book introduces different aspects of farm work. At 28 pages, you definitely get your money’s worth.
